First Capital Connect best in UK for passenger safety
09/02/2012
First Capital Connect (FCC) has won a national safety award for ‘Operational Safety – Passenger Management’.
The prestigious honour – a ‘Golden Whistle’ awarded by the Institute of Rail Operators’ (IRO) in cooperation with the Modern Railways magazine – is based on passenger safety figures reported by the Rail Safety Standards Board.
First Capital Connect outperformed all other train operating companies in the country.
Mark Underwood, FCC’s Head of Safety and Environment, said: “We have known for some time that the injury prevention initiatives have been starting to work and that our people are the best in the business, especially when we see the actions that are taken and the positive comments from our passengers.
“This award underpins and recognises the belief that we are on the right track. Our people are our main assets and it is these people in whatever role, customer service, operations, engineering and the support functions, that really make the difference to our passengers’ safety.
“Safety really does start at the front line in First Capital Connect and real engagement across the business is a true reflection of this award.
“I want to personally thank, praise and commend everyone for their continued effort to reduce even further accidents."
