First Capital Connect and the environment
At First Capital Connect we care passionately about the environment and are taking steps to reduce our carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, by making the best use of our resources and reducing waste. We also want to help our passengers make their journeys as sustainable as possible.
First Capital Connect was only the 11th company in the UK to achieve a certificated energy management system based on the international standard 'ISO 50001:2011'.
What we're doing to reduce our impact on the environment
Electric trains are the most environmentally friendly method of public transport. As well as helping to reduce the UK's carbon emissions, we are also working to reduce our own carbon footprint.
What you can do to have a greener journey
Did you know that over 40% of the average person's carbon footprint comes from personal transport such as cars, motorbikes and flights? Travelling by rail is much more environmentally friendly than taking the car but there is more you can do.
To advise customers what they can do to make their journeys more sustainable, First Capital Connect is staging a green week from Monday 4 to Friday 8 November 2013.
Members of the environment team will be visiting the following stations between 10am and 1pm every day:
- Monday at London Blackfriars
- Tuesday at Hitchin
- Wednesday at West Hampstead Thameslink
- Thursday at Potters Bar
- Friday at St Albans
