Environment

We are increasingly seeing the effect of climate change on the world around us and it is up to all of us to take action to reduce the impact we have on our environment.

First Capital Connect is committed to environmental improvement. We are taking steps to reduce our carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, make the best use of our resources and reduce waste.

You can make a big difference too - taking the train is a way to start so click on the link below and look out for the ‘small change, big difference’ symbol to see how train travel can help reduce your carbon footprint.

What we're doing to reduce our impact on the environment

Trains produce lower emissions per journey than most other transport modes and electric trains (used by First Capital Connect) produce lower emissions per journey than diesel trains. A properly managed railway can make a positive contribution to the environmental health of the nation. As well as helping to reduce the UK's carbon emissions, we are also working to reduce our own carbon footprint. Read more

What you can do reduce your impact on the environment

Did you know that over 40% of the average person's carbon footprint comes from personal transport such as cars, motorbikes and flights? Different types of transport release different amounts of CO2. Travelling by rail is much more environmentally friendly than flying or taking the car. Read more

Thank you!

By travelling on the train instead of in the car, you helped us to reduce UK CO2 emissions by 233,034 tons last year. That's enough to fill more than 233,000 hot air balloons!
