3.7.2007 First Capital Connect commended in accessibility awards
First Capital Connect was commended as a local business that gives ‘exceptional service to members of the community who are disabled’, in the first ever ‘Way to Be’ awards organised by Bedford and District Access Group.
The awards celebrate businesses that have ‘an enlightened attitude to disability’. First Capital Connect was nominated by Joyce Dynes, a regular customer at Bedford Station. She said: “The staff are always helpful to me as a sight-impaired person. Their service is absolutely marvellous.”
Way to Be recognises businesses that are the most helpful to people with disabilities, rather than those that meet access regulations most closely. This commendation is an endorsement of First Capital Connect employees’ personal commitment to accessibility.
Patrick Clements, Station Services Manager at Bedford, said: “The staff at Bedford station always try to go the extra mile to make sure we are providing our customers with the highest levels of customer service. It is nice to be commended in these awards.”
Andy Sharp, First Capital Connect’s Accessibility and Inclusion Manager added: “First Capital Connect is committed to making train services and stations as accessible as possible to all our customers. We are spending £1.2m on improving accessibility across all our stations.”
The awards, which are an initiative of Bedford and District Access Group, were held at Bedford Town Hall on Monday 18 June.
