Seats for You

Extra seats and a new timetable are coming to the Great Northern Route!

The issue

This May sees First Capital Connect introduce a new timetable following the completion of the Peterborough and Cambridge Capacity Scheme. The Great Northern route, serving King’s Lynn, Cambridge and Peterborough services into London King’s Cross has some of the most overcrowded services in the country. As a result we have pushed for extra capacity and from 17 May 2009 we will have 20 additional carriages to support our capacity plans along with a whole new timetable.

What has been done?

The timetable is the result of the Peterborough & Cambridge Capacity Study and the subsequent consultation that took place. First Capital Connect met with Rail User Groups, local authorities, MPs and other stakeholders; it held public meetings, provided detailed information about the proposals, including new web-pages - as part of its effort to reach out to as wide an audience as possible.

What does this mean?

It means more seats on your journey. The combination of a new timetable plus the additional carriages will have seen us increase seats by over 2,500 in the AM and over 3,000 in the PM since May 2008. Platforms have been lengthened and power upgrades installed along the route into London by Network Rail.

This is the most significant change to the Great Northern route timetable for over 15 years. The changes in May 2009 mean extra trains, and your normal train may now be scheduled to depart or arrive at a different time. Please check the timetable attached below.

Off-peak

We will also be improving off-peak weekend services and details can be found on the attached document. The full timetable will be issued in due course ahead of May 17th.
